Description
Situated at the gateway to Wensleydale, Masham is the home of the Black Sheep Brewery. Established in the early nineties by Paul Theakston, 5th generation of Masham's famous brewing family, the brewery now produces a staggering 14 million pints of beer each year. Regular 'shepherded' tours of the Brewery allow visitors to experience the traditional brewing process and the aroma and taste of English hops and malted barley. They are then welcome to sample Black Sheep's award winning ales in the comfort and relaxation of the Baa...r. Visitors can also enjoy a delicious meal in the unique surroundings of the Bistro or browse for the perfect gift in the Black Sheep Shop.
Disabled Access
Disabled access to the Visitor Centre is very good. Although there are restrictions on the brewery tours, visitors can browse the shop, enjoy the delights of the Bistro and sample award winning ales.
Directions
Masham is on the A6108, 9 miles from Ripon and 7 miles from Bedale. The Visitor Centre is easy to reach from the A1, which is only 8 miles away, giving easy access from both North and South. Cars: come into Masham over the bridge (Where the brewery can be seen to your right at the top of the bank). Take a right hand turn before the garage and follow the road around past the White Bear and the Black Sheep works entrance, taking the next right into the Visitor Centre Car Park. Due to the sharp nature of the right hand turn before the garage, we advise coaches to take the left fork into the centre of Masham, taking the next left turn, follow the road right around the market square onto the road you came in on. At the top of the hill take the left fork, this will bring you directly opposite the sharp turning.
